Who we are

Crest is made by Boost Innovation Inc., Alberta, Canada ("we", "us"). You can reach us at info@boostinnovation.ca.

The short version

Your takes are recorded and read on your iPhone. The video, the audio, your words and the face and body points stay on your iPhone and are never sent to us.

You create a Crest account so your history follows you. We store your account details, your answers to two setup questions, and your results: the counts and their times. If you use Audience feedback, the people who answer your survey are covered by the section of that name below. We never sell your data. We only send you emails about Crest if you say yes, and you can stop them at any time.

What we collect

Account. Your name and email address, from Sign in with Apple (which may give us a private relay address) or the email you sign up with, and an account identifier.

Profile. What you are practising for (for example a pitch or an interview), and your role and industry. You can change or clear these in Settings.

Results. For each take: its date, length and type, and what Crest counted (look-aways and when they happened relative to your sentences, filler words and hedges as counts, pauses, hand position), plus the time of your best eight seconds. Results are numbers and times, never the video, the sound or your words.

Subscription status. Whether Crest Pro is active, as reported by Apple. We do not receive your payment details.

Support. Anything you send us when you write to us.

What stays on your iPhone

The video and sound of every take, the 478 face points and 33 body points the GRW Engine finds in each frame, and the transcript Apple's on-device speech framework produces to count filler words (which is discarded after counting). Crest does not recognise who anyone is and does not infer emotions, health or personality.

Videos are kept out of iCloud backups. Settings in Crest can remove videos older than 90 days.

How we use your data

To run your account, show your history and patterns on any of your devices, tune prompts and drills to what you are practising for, provide Crest Pro, answer support requests, and improve Crest using results combined across users without names or emails attached. If you opt in, we use your name and email address to send you tips, product news and offers about Crest and other Boost Innovation products. We do not show you third-party ads, do not sell or rent your data, and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Emails from us

Service emails, such as sign-in codes and notices about your account or subscription, are part of running Crest. Marketing emails are separate and are sent only if you tick the box to receive them. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also turn them off in Settings > Account. We act on an unsubscribe within 10 business days, usually at once. We keep a record of when and how you agreed, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation requires.

Where it is stored and who processes it

Your account, profile and results are stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, on servers in Canada. Apple provides Sign in with Apple and handles purchases. We send email through Resend, which may process your email address in the United States. These providers process data only to provide their service to us.

Sharing you choose

You can send a finding card, a before-and-after card, a mesh card or a clip of your best eight seconds through the iOS share sheet. The recipient and the app you pick handle it under their own terms. Crest never shares anything by itself.

Audience feedback

If you use Audience feedback, we store what you set up for each talk in your account: its title and date, the name attendees see, any questions of your own, whether you ask about bookings and referrals, and any link you add. We also store the answers people give.

People in your audience answer at grwproject.app/c, on their own phones, without an account. We collect their answers to the questions. We collect their first name, organisation and email only if they tick a box that needs them: one lets you quote them, one lets you contact them about speaking at an event or about someone who books speakers, and one lets Boost Innovation keep their details and email them news about Crest and the speakers who use it. Each box is separate, unticked and optional, and we record the words they agreed to and when. A written answer that looks like an email address or phone number is not kept.

You see each question's answers once at least four people have answered, written answers without names, quotes from people who agreed to be quoted, and the details of people who agreed to be contacted by you, listed apart from their answers. We also keep each response's choices, with no name, email, organisation or written answer, combined with other talks, to improve these questions.

If you delete your account, your surveys and their answers are deleted. Details that people agreed to give Boost Innovation, and choices kept without names, stay. Anyone who answered can unsubscribe from our emails or ask us to delete their details at info@boostinnovation.ca.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account and results while your account is open. You can delete your account in Settings > Account > Delete account; your account, profile and results are removed from our systems within 30 days. Deleting the app removes the videos on your iPhone. If you subscribe, deleting your account does not cancel the subscription; cancel it in your Apple Account settings.

Optional: Photos, calendar and notifications

Photos. If you import a video, you pick it in the system picker; Crest receives only that video and keeps it on your iPhone.

Calendar. Only if you tap "From your calendar": Crest reads your upcoming events on your iPhone so you can pick one. The event you pick stays on your iPhone.

Notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your data, withdraw consent to marketing emails, and withdraw any other consent, by using Settings in Crest or writing to info@boostinnovation.ca. We answer within 30 days. These rights apply under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA and Alberta's PIPA), the GDPR and UK GDPR, and US state privacy laws. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Crest is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app when a change is material.
